The US Food and Drug Administration has just published a call for applications for the next cohort of the Patient Engagement Collaborative (PEC). Founded in 2018 in collaboration with the Clinical Trials Transformation Initiative (CTTI), the PEC is a group of patient organizations and individual advocates discussing ways to improve patient engagement. CTTI and the FDA are working together to involve representatives from different perspectives, including patients, caregivers, and representatives from various patient organizations.
Understanding patient experiences is critical to support medical device regulation and ensure that safe, effective and innovative medical devices are available, ”said Andrea C. Furia-Helms, MPH, Director of Patient Affairs, Office of Clinical Policy and Programs.
The call for applications is designed to identify individuals who are interested in serving as members of the PEC. The application period is 30 days. PEC members are expected to serve two to three years in office. A selection committee consisting of patient representatives, CTTI staff, the FDA and patient representatives will select individuals to serve as members following this formal call for applications.
