On behalf of IQVIA – I joined IQVIA as a clinical studies assistant in September 2015, right out of college. It has been an exciting journey since then and I am grateful for the managers who have helped me along the way.
I’ll never forget the first check-in meeting with my manager when she asked about my career goals. As green as I was, I really didn’t have an answer for her, so I started thinking seriously about what I wanted to achieve professionally.
By making my own goals clearer to my manager, she was able to guide me through various career paths and the steps I could take to move to the next level. It quickly became clear to me that I wanted to switch to the position of Clinical Research Associate (CRA). My manager helped me find this out by:
- I connect with seasoned CRAs to learn more about a day in life
- Recommend training to increase my knowledge of the role
- Arranging unique assignments to strengthen my resume
She even went the extra mile to ensure I had hands-on experience by allowing me to travel around the country helping one of my sponsors prepare for an inspection.
I started a CRA development program in December 2016 and later completed a CRA position. At my first meeting with my supervisor, I was asked again about my career goals. This time I was much better prepared.
After many conversations with my supervisor, I knew that the right next step for me was to move to a CRA leadership role. One of my favorite jobs as a CRA was training the site staff and helping them understand the protocol and all of its processes.
My manager helped set up:
- Training to increase my knowledge of the role and its responsibilities
- Instructions to Become a CRA Mentor to Train Junior CRAs
- Unique opportunities to make myself a stronger candidate
In addition, my manager helped me develop reports on mobile site visits by running user access tests and providing hands-on feedback to improve system functionality.
In my six years at IQVIA, my managers have consistently taken care of my growth and development – and it has shown me how important it is for managers to participate in the development of their team. Now that I’m a manager, I can’t wait to keep paying it and continue that tradition with my team!
